in which michael, in the days of the apocalypse, talks to the righteous man and learns from him. in the end, dean is willing to say yes, but it is michael who doesn’t know if he’ll be able to.
who said i love you first? do either of them ever say it ?? EVER ?? it sure isn’t going to be dean so i’d say michael but — they don’t really seem like the ‘i love you’ type, more the ‘you’re all i got’, ‘i need you’, ‘don’t die on me’ kind of affection. perhaps in the middle of the night, or after something scary, or when one of them is holding the other’s dead body (: who laughs when the other trips? probably dean bc he’s an ass who pays the bills? ……sam which one makes a bigger deal around the holidays? dean probably ?? if he’s got the opportunity to be excited and festive without having to pretend he’s Not then he’d so go for it who’s more clumsy? i wanna say human!michael bc he isn’t used to being human but def dean if we’re looking at archangel!michael who checks their daily horoscope? neither of them. dean scoffs at the idea and michael knows it’s not true who sings louder in the car? dean srry michael. he’s begun to confiscate the tape collection when they’re going on long trips who leaves the cap off the toothpaste? michael and it peeVES DEAN OFF SO MUCH who is more up to date in pop culture? haha who do you think who insists on going to see the newest movies? michael bc he’s genuinely interested in this stuff but dean insists everything made after the 90s was awful who cries when the abused animal commercials come on? michael bABY who’s the lighter sleeper? both of them who believes in ghosts? the first thing dean thinks is, nobody ever asks. and it’s true. dean has shared his kisses with many people — shared more than that, too — and never before has he been faced with an explicit question of his consent. it’s new. it’s refreshing. it’s unnerving.
the second thing that dean thinks is, hell no. an automatic reaction to pull away, step away, grips his muscles and he almost does so. almost. even the thought of kissing michael, touching michael, leaning into michael where someone could see: sam or —
or nothing. it’s just sam now. nobody else would care. and a small voice at the back of dean’s mind tells him sam wouldn’t care, either. his fingertips twitch.
the silence has stretched on and he can see the former archangel in front of him beginning to doubt, his smooth skin creasing into the start of a frown. dean looks up at michael from where his gaze had dwelt on the ground, and his own frown is one of thought, fear, and … interest.
they’ve waited too long for this, he decides.
before dean has a chance to doubt himself, he gives michael his consent by curling his fingers in the lapels of his jacket, tugging him through the small space settled between them, and pressing his yes against michael’s mouth in a kiss sweeter and softer than anything this jagged man has been able to offer to any other lover.
(it’s not the yes michael was once looking for, but dean’s sure he’ll appreciate it nonetheless.)
clearly this fandom needs more michean so think about these things:
michael gently tracing every curve of dean’s face with his fingers and he makes the excuse that he’s checking the forging of his blade but really he just loves touching dean
dean having dreams where he sees michael’s true form and gets lost in michael’s grace
michael almost weeping with joy that his father made him something so beautiful
the first time dean almost dies during a hunt when michael takes control of guarding him two square miles of land around where the monsters were is reduced to a smoldering crater
michael telling dean stories about the creation of the earth
michael talking about father and dean talking about his
dean grooming michael’s wings
dean touching michael’s halo
the first time dean has michael try pie
dean telling michael he should relax and leave heaven for a while, experience earth as it was supposed to be experienced
they never talk about lucifer
they never talk about sam
they never talk about the times dean’s cried when michael calls him worthy and righteous
michael being possessive as fuck
dean being able to sense michael’s grace from miles away
dean wanting desperately to say yes but having to keep saying no because there has to be another way to save the world
michael disagreeing, even thinking it foolish, but respecting dean for his courage and determination
michael in awe of his father’s creation as dean does find another way to save the world
dean never expecting michael to stay, but so goddamn glad that he does
